If you ask me, it doesn’t take five minutes or half a brain to lure sexually pursuing men. There is no art to desire, no “tact” in being a woman who can draw any kind of desperation in the male species.
And then, take two gorgeous Latina women, who know how to shake their backsides at the Superbowl half time show.
Please know, I waited to discuss this topic. I wanted to let it settle, so I could address it thoughfully.
We are a big “football family”. So just naturally, two of my four children who were home, were watching the dancing of Shakira and JLo. My girls watching were thirteen and two.
First know, I am a foster parent. As a foster parent I have heard and seen horrific abuse of girls in families, with relatives, and even abuse from girl’s very own father’s.
And you might think it’s just “out there”, but sexual perversion and the assault of young girls and even infant children, is a very real thing.
Children are used as objects in men’s sexual fulfillment more than you or I would like to think. And it’s not just with drug addicts, or those in the sex slave trade abroad. It’s right here, in America.
As someone who has commited her life to caring for kids, especially young girls who have been victimized by abuse, I had to cringe when I watched the Superbowl, a place that is one of the biggest arenas for prosletization of women, prostitution and child sex slavery.
Did the half-time luring of men expose this sickening trend or did it gain profits for those selling sexual victims waiting in the shadow to be raped?
What messages are we telling our children, especially our daughters?
All I could do was keep apologizing to my teenager, who was watching in question. She’s stunningly gorgeous, yet wants to grow up and be a doctor.
And my two year old? Will she grow up and learn, her value is in her internal worth, not her outward appearance? Will society evolve to where women are more than objects who just produce pleasure for men, babies for mankind?
When will our daughter’s be seen by their character and kindness, intelligence and wisdom instead of their bodily functions or abilities?
Some say, “This dancing at halftime was an embracing of our ‘Latin Culture'”.
My daughter is Latin and I have been to many hispanic countries, including Mexico, Guatemala and Peru. Yet, never have I seen wipes or poles or women half dressed thrusting their private parts at men in hopes for rating, attention or appreciation.
The Latin women I know in these cultures are hard working. They live sacrificially, quietly and humbly, taking care of their husbands by cooking morning and night, working hard, and raising their children.
What shocked me most about the half-time show wasn’t the dancing from Shakira or JLo….
I kind of expected “shock value” type of performances for women who are aging and possibly too jaded to perform the soulful, heartfelt belts of women like Demi Lavato in “Anyone“.
And while there were a few beautiful Latin footsteps in the Halftime show I really like and appreciated by JLo and her men, most of the show left me with a sickening feeling…
But back to the real shocker for me?
It was when JLo and someone I greatly admire in the Latin world, Marc Anthony’s beautiful daughter Emme came out with a bunch of kids in white.
My first thought was, “Why would JLow expose her daughter to that kind of dancing? How could she let her daughter watch her mom half dressed in strip club fashion?”
I mean, would any child be proud of a mom who thrusts her body in front of a millions of sex thirsty men?
Then, to see these kids offered up like sacrifices in white? Why would a performance first rile up men’s sexuality desires and then, present little girls all dressed in white right after?
Did I mention the sex trafficking of little girls is one of the most active at Superbowl events?
I could go on and on, but I just think our nation, our Superbowl, and the Latin culture could do so much better.
My husband’s family of women are Latin, strong and educated. They are beautiful and comfortable in their bodies. Yet they know…
Real strength in Hispanic women is found in between their ears, not between their legs.
If there had been a rating to the Half-time show…
- Maybe my teen and toddler daughter’s wouldn’t have had to see such degregation of women.
- Maybe they would still be believing that fame and power means utilizing their influence to help weaker peoples.
- Maybe they would still hold to the idea that women can be anything, doctors, austronauts, educators…
Females don’t need to lower themselves to a primitive time when women’s sole identities were wrapped in primarily what their bodies could perform or produce.
Let’s believe more for future Half time shows; more for the Latin population, more for women in general.
My only gratefulness was that my three-year-old and seven-year-old daughter weren’t in the room to witness such the free soliciting of the sexualization of women.
We, as women were made for more. You, if you are a female reading this, have greater value than what you look like or how you can please men.
We are strong, smart, and capable of reaching great heights with our influence upon a society that clearly still needs to learn…
“May there one day be a day where women are judged by the content of their character, not by the thrust of their skin.”

Well put.
Jono was just listening to a post by Timothy Flanders, meaning of catholic/superbowl at the same time I was reading your post.
Great points. Thanks for taking a stand. Visiting you from the purposeful faith link up. laurensparks.net
I don’t watch the Superbowl, but I think your point is very well-taken. After all the press about women who have been victimized, why would anyone want to have a show that glorifies sexual allure? You’re so right, we were made for more!
Agreed. The most sickening thing was involving children, and allowing this smut to occur at all. Shame on everyone involved for allowing this to be seen by football fans. I hope they received lots of complaints and will do a better job in the future (but I doubt it). May God bless you and your husband as you raise all of your children in the Lord!
Thanks for the courage to take a stand. What surprised me the most in the discussions is how many Christians saw nothing wrong with this performance. And secondly, i wondered why Christians even watched it and we’re then surprised. This had been going on for years at the super bowl. We turned it off during halftime
