I’m just as human as the next guy (or gal). I see the black masks, hear the endless media portrayals of what happened in Paris on Friday the 13th.
I know the reality. There are hidden cells, people who look just like you and me waiting to go around and blow themselves up…
Worse yet, they think their god will be glorified if murder and hate run rampant, if fear won out.
Still, do you remember when Facebook was about people, instead of wars about Syrians, or Paris, or terrorists….or even simple red cups from Starbucks?
What happened?
How do we follow our callings? Rise from the thickening mud of social media, spread our wings and fly into our purposes instead of living from, other people’s fears and opinions?
Well first, let’s look at our Founding Fathers. What did they tell us? United we stand, divided we fall.
Yet, when we see families at war about personal opinions; gun control, racial battles, Syrians or what we had for dinner…divisions have lassoed us all.
Like a giant fish, we all can fall for the bait, swoop down and posting thoughts and opinions that so blatantly cause havoc.
Unknowingly, we can start our own wars. And we aren’t even terrorist.
The very freedom we have been given, freedom of speech, then seems to turn around and pierce us. And like a deceitful friend bitterness snatches what should be most important to us, people.
It’s like an eagle that flies down to catch her meal. She sees food, grabs it with her claws, but little did she realize that the weight of what was hidden under the water was too great.
Her wings get wet with deception. And before she knows it, she drowns.
And like this bird representing our great country, we must remember that we are more than cowards, petty arguers, fearful followers of some great war that seems to be rising all around.
So which is it? Will we keep our eyes up, or will we obsess with the dark deceptions lurking underneath the surface?
Will we scroll through Facebook and let our emotions be carried away like a feather in a storm? Will we watch repeated showings of the evil on the uprising?
Or will we hold our child’s hand a little longer? Will we say, “I love you”? Take a long walk? Tell the ones we have offended, “I am sorry”?
Will we realize the enemies scheme is to bring division. Keep us like mighty warriors locked up in our self made prison’s of fear and intimidation….
When we have the power to fly.
We have the power to not care about red cups, or global tides that we cannot change…
But instead, we can go out of our way to care for our neighbor, the lady stranded along I5, the homeless man trying to stay warm without a hat that we could easily buy for 99 cents.
And I get that learning and educating ourselves on global events and world politics is wise. Somehow knowledge is power and information can be temporary cathartic, making us feel alive…
But how much is too much? When does information control our lives?
When is it time to put away the laptop, turn the t.v. off, stop living inside of our cell phones and go out and taste and see that the world is still good and that we can find hope and joy and purpose…if we intentionally open our eyes?
And I wonder sometimes, if we would embrace our callings more if we realized The One true source of all food, hope, healing, safety, and provision?
Instead of looking to the deep, would we turn our heads up to the heavens and realize our home is higher than we can even imagine yet? How might we soar then, if we knew our time here on this earth was shorter than we realized?
God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power and love, a sound mind that refuses the snares of the enemies game.
Isn’t it time we live bold, thinking of things true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report…instead of giving into fear’s game?
Can we slay doubt and confusion by going out and purposely doing good works and simply loving people, knowing…
Love is stronger than hate, kindness greater than war. There is power in single-mindedly following our callings, instead of swooping towards fear, conflict, and confusion.
And didn’t He say, “They will know us by our love?” And shouldn’t love rule the world?
Yet, have we not learned yet what wisdom tells us, sometimes love is silent?
Sometimes love must miss a meal to feed another, must not fear for flying higher, must harness emotion for the truth that’s greater than our own.
I want more for my life, don’t you? I want to go out, not saying, “Wow, I won that Facebook debate”, or “I watched a lot of t.v. about what the future might hold”.
I want a life that’s bold, fearless, brave, takes hold of every opportunity, every chance to love those in front of me. I want a life where I can lay my head down on my pillow at night, and be at peace regardless of the circumstances…
God wins this war. The battles are His. My job is simply to heed his voice and follow where He is leading…
Life is to short for senseless battle, swallowing fears, idol worries.
Let’s shut down the Goliath of media, and go out and live…..like love all the world depends on it.

Life is too short, too beautiful, and has been given by God for all that is going on around us that is of satan. Life is to be lived today, in this moment, with this breath…for we may not have another tomorrow, another moment, another breath.
Oh, God, forgive us for looking down instead of up to You.
looking up, ~ linda
ps…I tried to type without looking down and had to backspace a few times! : )
