My Daughter’s Bedroom Makeover! Are You Living in Color?

I used to fear color.  No, really!?  Fear it!

I used to live with white walls in a home of white accents.

People would come & state our house was cold. Sterile. Hospital”ish”.

Until a good friend.  An artist.  Told me something.  See….

  • She was free.
  • She was fearLESS.
  • She was bold in her choice of colors and accents.

And what she said changed everything. It changed my life.  Really. She said,

“Jen, you can always paint over it.”

“What a concept. I thought.  You mean I can live.  I can try and fail.  I can add color and if it’s tone or scale does not work in my house….

I can just paint over it?”

So, I did it.  I painted more than my walls.  But…my life. The corners.  The halls of my heart.  With friendships.  And people.  And fun.  And trials, at times, on the grand scale of life.

And sometimes I did have to repaint.  Go back and start over with primer and a different color.

But, it was always worth it.

Jumping off the safety of white in our home.  Trying something new. Stepping away from my colorless rooms.

So, now I ask you….

When was the last time you lived fearless?  And painted something in you life….with color?  I would love to hear about it!

Here is my duaghter’s makeover of her room.
My splashing!  Daring! Vibrant teenage!
The one who hates white….and lives fully…..
In color.

What in your life would you like to paint over?  Remember…it’s not to late.  So do it!

  1. Wish I could find the picture of the door I painted. Made a plain closet door into a stained glass looking door. It was the most adventurous coloring I have done! Why not take it a step further. I always wanted a dutch door when I had my daughter. So my hubby took a saw to a regular door and made one. It wasn’t perfect but if it didn’t work we just needed to replaced a door. It was amazing! I wish we still had that house!

  2. Great post and great illustrations. I’m a plain Jane when it comes to colour. However, in our new home, we have been a little more adventurous but nothing as bold as your lassies room. She must be thrilled with the bold new look!

  3. Brownie – Would love to see that door! Sounds like a great creative idea! Love it!

Wendy – Me too. Still not as bold as my daughter, but getting there. Yes, she is thrilled. Wish I were that brave! πŸ™‚
